Towards uniform valuations

The issue of how properties are valued has been tackled by two distinguished professionals in Belgium. Professor Marc de Ceuster and Professor Bert de Vos, both of whom hold Masters degrees in Real Estate Management, have written a book in Dutch, called ‘Vastgoed, gewikt en gewardeerd’, which roughly translates as ‘Real Estate, googled and valued’.

These members of the Antwerp Management School point out that in neighbouring countries, properties are valued according to well-defined and uniform rules. In Belgium, however, there is a tendency for each valuing body to carry out the task according to their own rules. The major body for real estate professionals – RICS, Royal Institute for Chartered Surveyors – has set out principles on which professionals should base themselves when valuing property, the authors also point out. It is in order to further the cause of uniformity that the Antwerp Management School has become involved, by publishing this book written by members of its personnel. The book will be officially launched on March 22nd at the School.
