Leuven project in Mipim Awards

Belgium has always been well represented at the Mipim Awards, and there is once again representation in the finalists this year. For once, however, we are only able to report a single Belgian candidate to have made it through to the finals. Organisers Reed Midem have just released to Mipim accredited journalists, the names of the 45 projects from 21 countries which constitute the finalists in the eleven categories. A total of over 200 submissions were made from 58 countries, which is a record.

The Belgian representative is the Gasthuisberg Outpatient Care Centre at Leuven, which is competing in the Best Healthcare Development category. This is a development by University Hospitals Leuven and the work of AAPROG architects, DETOO Architects, POLO Architects & Studieburo De Klerck.

For information, the other categories are (in each case preceded by the word ‘Best’): Hotel and Tourism Resort, Industrial and Logistics Development, Mixed Use Development, Office and Business Development, Refurbished Building, Residential Development, Shopping Centre, Urban Regeneration Project, Futura and Futura Mega.

The winners will be chosen by a 50/50 split of the expert jury’s votes and those of Mipim visitors on site. The winners will be announced during a ceremony to take place in the Palais des Festivals at Cannes on the evening of Thursday March 14th. It should be noted that as usual, Belgium is also present on the jury, with AG Real Estate CEO Serge Fautré occupying one of the seats.
