Westland set for upgrade

The Westland Shopping Centre, one of the three traditionally most successful centres in Belgium along with two others which make up this select ‘www’, Westland, Wijnegem and Woluwe), is to undergo a substantial renovation.

AG Real Estate, which is already breathing new life into another iconic centre – City 2 at the Place Rogier in Brussels – is now to undertake the first major upgrade since Westland was built in 1972. The objective is to provide it with a new look both inside and outside, giving it a contemporary and convivial feel translated by the slogan ‘Live, Shop, Play’.

All of the existing space will be completely renovated and reorganised, the facades reworked and the surrounds redesigned. Two new constructions with a total surface area of around 15,000 m² will in time be added to the north and south of the site. The main central alley will be elongated via awnings covering the future ‘food & beverage’ terraces. Pedestrian walkways with vegetation will also be added.

In terms of parking, the number of spaces will be increased to some 2,350, but these will be less visible as parking areas are to be added on the roofs and underground.

No timing has been communicated by AG Real Estate or by the architects in charge of the project, DDS+.
