Major sale on the Meir

As the summer got into swing, a major transaction was carried out on the Meir, Antwerp’s iconic shopping street and (along with Rue Neuve in Brussels), the busiest shopping street in the whole of Belgium.

Connectimmo has sold the 36,000 m² mixed-use building ‘Meir 127’ to Urbicoon.

This is not just a typical ‘one retailer to another’ transaction, however. Urbicoon intends to redevelop the building into a mixed project of residential, retail and some public facilities (including a school) of approximately 34,000 m². This deal is considered as the first part of a larger redevelopment project.

The purchase agreement has been signed and the transaction is expected to be legally completed in September. CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield were both involved in assisting the parties to the transaction.
