Rive Gauche nominated for Mapic Awards

It has just been announced that the Rive Gauche shopping centre, which is the centrepiece of the redevelopment of Charleroi lower town, has been nominated for the prestigious ‘Mapic Awards’. The Mapic show, which is the retail equivalent of Mipim, takes place at the same venue – the Palais des Festivals in Cannes – from November 15th to 17th, and is also organised by Reed Midem.

Rive Gauche has been nominated in the ‘Best New Shopping Centre’ category. This nomination follows it having received an ‘Honorable Mention’ within the framework of the ‘American Architecture Prize’ last month, and having been named a finalist in the World Architecture Festival, which takes place in Berlin at the same time as Mapic.

Rive Gauche has been designed to be a part of the lower town of Charleroi, with direct connections to the surroundings and to the station, and to contribute to linking the lower and upper towns. Designed by DDS+ architects, it comprises 39,000 m² of retail space, a four-star 124-room hotel and a 1000-space underground car park. Along with this are around 50 apartments, an office area and a youth hostel. The winners of the awards will be announced on November 16th.
