Pulse brings new life to Molenbeek

Another major addition to the revitalisation of the commune of Molenbeek was inaugurated at the end of last week. ‘Pulse’, a development by Home Invest Belgium (HIB) is a complex of 93 studios and apartments and 3 houses, set in the Karreveld district just a few hundred metres from Ossegem metro station and from the Karreveld domain with its park and castle. As Molenbeek mayor Françoise Schepmans said during her speech: “Our commune is often in the news, sometimes for problems, and sometimes for magnificent projects such as this”. She also said that the commune is encouraging owners to renovate an ageing housing stock.

Pulse is located on the site of a former office site which had become obsolete, and works started on the new vocation in 2012. In architectural terms, there are three buildings and a variety of aesthetic touches to avoid monotony. This avoidance of monotony also extends to the relationship between the complex and the road. It features an open entrance to the interior garden (and pétanque court!) so that the traditional continuous building line is pierced. HIB chief Executive Sophie Lambrighs pointed out that her company (which is retaining the complex in its portfolio) is now building around 150 housing units a year, all destined for the rental market. The issues addressed by Pulse, she went on to say, include architectural quality, the image of the city, technical aspects and new modes of living.
