One of the on-going retail park sagas appears to be a step closer to coming into being. The City Mall project in Verviers named 'Au Fil de l' Eau' had been blocked by a refusal on the part of the authorities to grant the socio-economic permit. Now however, a higher authority, in the person of Walloon region Minister for the Economy Pierre-Yves Jeholet, has announced that the appeal against this decision, lodged by City Mall and the City of Verviers, has been accepted, after consideration of the positive and negative elements.

The retail park, which was first evoked some 13 years ago, and had been scheduled to extend to 30,000 m². It is now closer to 22,000 m² of retail space, along with around 3,000 m² of restaurant/cafes, services and housing.

It remains to be seen when work will actually start, but the latest decision would appear to signal that 'Au Fil de l Eau' will indeed see light of day.
