Go-ahead for WTC renovation

There has been more progress in the potential move of parts of the Flemish administration into the World Trade centre buildings I and II in the North district of Brussels. This move was dependent on the towers being fully refurbished by owners Befimmo, and the City of Brussels has just given its go-ahead for this refurbishment to take place.

The towers will total some 110,000 m² above ground, including 75,000 m² of offices (of which part will be co-working – presumably but not yet confirmed, a Silversquare), 14,000 m² of residential accommodation, a 16,000 m² hotel along with leisure activities and shops. In its annual report, Befimmo also details that the hotel will be ‘innovative’ in collaboration with a specialised operator, and that the apartments will be for rent. Car park and delivery access will be moved to another part of the site.

For its part, the Flemish administration is looking to take 67,000 m² which has to be ready during 2023 and which will be under an 18 year lease. Befimmo says that works are scheduled to start during this current quarter and last until mid 2023.
