Major development opportunity in Liège province

When the subject of rehabilitating former industrial sites is raised, it often means those on the peripheries (or even within) our largest cities. However, a project which was presented at Mipim last week demonstrates that the smaller cities are following this trend too.

Hasard Colliery, a former mining site at Cheratte (Visé) to the north of Liège, is to be redeveloped by the Liège province’s agency SPI. The agency is currently looking for investors or developers able to convert the site into offices, housing, leisure culture and services facilities. There are currently 4,000 m² of buildings (described as ‘exceptional built heritage’) on the site which are re-usable, with floor areas from 200 m² to 450 m². Around these are a further three hectares, making at total potential for buildings of around 40,000 m².

The site is ready for redevelopment now, having been de-polluted and rendered asbestos-free. It benefits from a central position for businesses, in Belgium but close to the Dutch and German borders, and also close to the logistics facilities at Trilogiport and at Liège Airport among others.
The SPI is awaiting proposals by the end of September.
