Wood and energy efficiency on show in Namur

Over recent years, the residential market has become a segment in its own right within the overall real estate domain. Office developments most often include a residential element nowadays, and we are also more and more frequently reporting on large residential schemes in various parts of the country.

These developments are almost obligatorily environmentally-friendly and energy efficient, and while we report on this too, we do not go into details about how this is done. To rectify this to some degree, it is with pleasure that we point out a trade show which has just taken place in Namur. Under the name of ‘Bois & Habitat’ (Wood & Housing’), the Artexis Easyfairs event clearly focused on the use of wood and other vegetable-based materials in the construction of housing. But it also extended to the wider domain of energy and comfort, with exhibitors in a number of domains. Associations such as the relevant departments of the Walloon Region, were also exhibiting.

Where the use of wood is concerned, a number of large house-building companies were present, as the photo shows. Others concentrated on roofs or insulation, furniture and kitchens etc. Of those which did not use wood but were in the domain of comfort and heating, two were present with out of the ordinary products. One of these was Pneumatic Vacuum Elevators, which fits self-standing vacuum-operated elevators into small spaces such as the centre of stairwells. The other was Fixis, which supplies a heating system that, in simple terms, turns the whole of the ceiling into a low-energy radiator, radiating the heat downwards like the sun.

It is gratifying to see that the whole domain of energy efficiency/environment, is generating not just interest, but start-ups and mainstream companies producing the equipment to turn the philosophy into reality.
