Affordable housing - the latest niche

Ahead of the Realty show to be held in Knokke on September 19-20, the organizers have released a statement on what may be another niche market in real estate. This is affordable- housing, which, it is stated, has an important place in the sustainable investment segment. The organizers of Realty go on to quote Serge Fautré, CEO of AG Real Estate as saying that there are still many opportunities for investors seeking to leave a legacy in society. The challenge is to build affordable homes by limiting the number of square metres per unit whilst maintaining high quality throughout. Real estate promoters need to keep reinventing themselves to respond appropriately to the ever-widening gap between supply and demand.

Social housing rental agencies manage private homes and rent them out at affordable prices to low-income families. Serge Fautré comments: “That is a first step, but we can take this a lot further. We need to develop public-private initiatives. AG Real Estate knows that particular field very well. In the past, we were also partners in the ‘Schools of Tomorrow’ project, a public-private partnership (PPP) in collaboration with the Flemish government and BNP Paribas Fortis.”

Realty finishes its release with a list of professionals from the real estate sector who will discuss niche real estate investment possibilities at the Niche Lab at the Realty Summit on Thursday 19 September:
Koenraad Belsack - CEO Upgrade Estate
Dirk Bakker - CEO & Head of Hotels EMEA, Colliers International Hotels BV
Michel Vanstallen - CEO Imoya & Managing Director Dorian Groep
Philip Borremans - Head of Real Estate PMV
Lucia Marcuzzo - General Manager Central Europe at Levi's.
