Tubize renewal begins
The Henri Garcia Architectural Bureau has published details of the new district it is to create in Tubize. Named the ‘Quartier des Confluents’ (is this a reminder of Lyon… ?) the scheme is being undertaken on behalf of Duferco Wallonie/ Sampace Samfi-Invest Group /| DCI. The architects point out that the permit has now been granted.
The Confluents district, extending to 10 hectares, is designed to be inter-generational and will include, among others, 550 residential units, a crèche, 50 serviced apartments, a 48-unit serviced seniors’ residence, a medical centre, local shopping, and a 12,000 m² outlet centre with 80 retail brands. There will also be a leisure area and adventure park. An urban boulevard is also scheduled to be created as part of the renewal of the entire Tubize area.
The site is a former industrial area and a steelmaking complex, with activities dating back more than two and a half centuries. In concrete terms, the new life of the district has now begun, with demolition works having commenced this week on the former Clabecq works. In total, and over a long period, no less than 80 hectares are likely to be rehabilitated.
