Office space evolving - CBRE

The CBRE Occupier Europe 2018 survey has found a growing degree of importance attached by companies to the use of technology, to well-being at work and to flexible space. This is all allied to an improved ‘user experience’.

The technology in question, CBRE goes on to say, is therefore not merely that involved in technical performance such as energy management, but that which may, by increasing occupier well-being, increase productivity. Signposting applications, connected sensors, portable technology and systems for personalising the individual working environment, are among those technologies given as examples. Remote room reservation is another typical application.

These evolving preferences bring with them an evolution in property management, requiring more ‘consumerism’ and higher levels of service. The survey also reveals that more and more companies are expecting to see an increasing use of open space over the next three years. Further benefits from adopting this latest transformation in the now well-established ‘New Way of Working’ come in the form of attracting talent and of innovation. Where the selection of office space is concerned, companies are beginning to show a preference for buildings which have been designed from the outset for this system, or which can easily be adapted to it.
