Realty - out with the old...

Yesterday, Realty opened and closed its doors for the very last time at Tour & Taxis. The day was characterised by the very well attended CBRE conference on the theme of Reinventing the Workplace. In the corridors, despite an appearance of calm, exhibitors seemed pleased with the turnout.

It was also interesting to note that as the workplace and home life/mobility start to blur into one big whole, a number of start-ups in the Innovation Room were specialising not in buildings of any kind, but in mobility, car parking, car-sharing…

Yesterday represented an opportunity to ask Realty Director Mathieu Van Marcke about the reasons for the move to Knokke next year. This is also a good moment to point out that the exhibition is not only changing location, but season. In 2019 Realty will be on September 19th and 20th – a Thursday and Friday. Mathieu Van Marcke told us that if Realty was to be reinvented, simply staying at Tour & Taxis and changing the logo was not an option. He has received excellent feedback from exhibitors about the change, he said, especially developers. The main message is that they are looking not for quantity but for quality. And this will be reflected by a much smaller number of exhibitors (around 40) in a large area, with much networking space. Asked out the fact that some people are, to say the least, sceptical about the move, he answered: “People were sceptical about the creation of the new Belgian Pavilion at Mipim and its new location (for which he is also responsible – ed.) but it is now one of the most visited areas of Mipim”.
