Mapic, the retail property equivalent of Mipim organised by Reed Midem, opens its doors in Cannes on November 14th for 3 days.

The main topic this year is the phenomenon of the mutation of the market, and in particular ‘physical retailing in the digital era. The way shops will have to reinvent themselves if they are to continue to attract customers who appear to be permanently glued to their smartphones.

Reflecting the extensive segmentation in the market, Mapic is also organising a number of summits, including the outlet summit, which it describes as an exclusive platform and closed door event dedicated to the outlet industry. Leisure and global retail partners are two other summits taking place.

In total, Mapic will host 64 conferences and seminars. As an indication of the sort of numbers involved in the fair, last year there were 2,100 retailers present, including 400 which were new. Some 2,500 developers and 1,000 investors were also at the fair.
