The redevelopment of the vast area of the former ‘Cité Administrative’ of Brussels, just inside the pentagon at the level of the Botanical Gardens, has taken another step. This fourth stage is set to be developed by Immobel and Skyline Europe, who have started from zero by asking for plans from Swiss architect Max Dudler. These plans are now at public enquiry stage and are expected to be put before the relevant authorities for approval and permit delivery, on March 5th.

The latest plan involves what will in effect be a whole new city district: two towers and four other buildings, set to accommodate 443 apartments, 3,600 m² of retail space, a crèche, a primary and infants’ school and public spaces. There will also be a car park for 1,779 cars and 1,305 bikes.

What are the chances that this revise programme will succeed? These are the words of Brussels Master Architect Kristiaan Borret: “There is a better urbanistic balance (than the previous plan – ed.) with several entry points and transversal communications… The surroundings of the Boulevard Pacheco have been well thought-out. The central monumental staircase will also recreate a junction between the lower and upper towns.”

At Immobel, it is hoped that works will start this year.
