The Belgian real estate industry is used to seeing projects nominated for the Mipim Awards. Now, projects by architectural bureaux DDS+ and B2Ai have been nominated for the prestigious awards at the World Architecture Festival 2019 which is to take place in December in Amsterdam. This event is the only architecture trade fair in the world to combine seminars and awards. It also enables architects to present their projects to the public at large.

This year, the event takes place from December 4th to 6th and features 46 talks and seminars, 148 judges and 550 live finalist presentations. Around 2,200 architects from around the world are expected to attend.

The projects to have been nominated are the Van Oost site in Schaerbeek (DDS+), which will be competing in the ‘Completed Buildings: School’ category. This is part of a mixed use project for the commune of Schaerbeek which includes 2 schools, a sports complex and housing.
In the same category, B2Ai is nominated with ‘A la Croisée des Chemins’ in Neder-over-Hembeek. The Belgian contenders will be up against 13 other hopefuls from around the world. There are a total of 18 categories of ‘Completed Buildings’ to be judged.

Brussels-based bureau DDS+ is no stranger to the World Architecture Festival awards: in 2017 and 2018, the Rive Gauche (Charleroi) project and Îlot Sacré (Brussels) project won the prizes in their respective categories – ‘ Shopping – Completed Buildings’ and ‘Housing – Completed Buildings’.
