Architects DDS+ have announced the start of works on an office-to-residential conversion project on the Avenue Marcel Thiry, named Woluwe Valley, on behalf of project manager Urbicoon. This avenue in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert grew into an office location in its own right some years ago, but these buildings no longer respond to modern office requirements, and conversion to residential use is an obvious solution. It should also be noted that new constructions in this zone over recent years have also been for residential accommodation.

The location has many advantages, not the least of which is the immediate proximity (just a few hundred metres) of the E 40 motorway leading out to the Ring. This extremity of the avenue also accommodates a Cora shopping complex, while at the other end of the Avenue Marcel Thiry is the Boulevard de la Woluwe, which is where the Woluwe shopping centre (now known as W Shopping) is to be found. This is one of the three most frequented shopping centres in Belgium, along with Wijnegem and Westland (www…?)

The architects have given some details of the project. The structure of the building will be preserved, but the ensemble will be thoroughly renovated and refurbished to accommodate 121 housing units. A grid of architectonic concrete enables the appearance of the building to be adapted to its new residential function and to offer balconies to the new residents. A promenade is to be created alongside the shops and the sports hall which will be located on the ground floor. Along with the 121 residential units will be commercial space of just under 19,000 m˛, and 132 underground parking spaces. The works are scheduled to last until 2023.
