Last Friday the OIB – the real estate arm of the European Commission in Brussels – signed the agreement framing the acquisition of the new EU Conference Centre to be built on the Rue de la Loi, with developer Atenor. The sum involved is 155 million Euros. This agreement represents the culmination of a long and complex procedure that began almost 15 years ago, following a call for tenders launched by the European Commission through a competitive dialogue procedure.

This new conference centre will be housed in the base of an office tower (Realex project) for which Atenor has been awaiting the granting of permits since 2018. The permit requests take into account the guiding principles of the PUL (Plan Urbain Loi) and the recommendations resulting from the impact study. The new centre is intended to replace the current Center Borschette. With an overall surface area of some 25,000 m² it will be able to accommodate up to 3,100 persons simultaneously in 29 adaptable meeting and conference rooms.
