Ethias Liège new headquarters to be in Coronmeusese eco-district ‘Rives Ardentes’

The outdated Ethias Liège offices has prompted the company to move and house its 900 employees elsewhere. The insurance company is thus to leave the city centre – Rue des Croisiers - and build its new Liège headquarters at the edge of the new ‘Rives Ardentes’ eco-district in the Coronmeuse promontory. The decision for this relocation site is based, in particular, on the opinions gathered from the employees concerned.

The construction of the new ‘Rives Ardentes’ eco-district in the Coronmeuse promontory has started. 1,325 housing units are set to be built on this 25 hectare site located on the banks of the Meuse. At the end of last year, the NeoLegia consortium (Jan De Nul, CIT Blaton and Willemen) obtained the first permit for the construction of 200 housing units, shops and almost 400 underground car parking spaces.

Watching the project video presentation you will see how attractive ‘Rives Ardentes’new eco-district will be.

Ethias new office building, designed by Jaspers-Eyers Architects, will be located on the site between the current sports hall and the future marina. The building is designed to be modular and flexible in order to meet new organizational requirements which include shared work spaces allowing for part-time homeworking. The total office area occupied will then be much less than previously. To make the offices attractive and fit for spontaneous meetings and collaborative work, a wide atrium is to be integrated into the centre of the building with terraces and a garden. By the time the necessary permits are obtained, work should begin in 2022 and be completed by the end of 2024, the period scheduled for the big move.

Ethias carbon neutral objective by 2030

Ethias’s new building aims aims to be certified ‘Breeam Excellent’. Philippe Lallemand, CEO of Ethias comments this relocation move: “A real turning point in the history of Ethias, this project is anchored in the continuity of the actions implemented to optimize our organizational model, while contributing to our objective of reducing our ecological footprint. We are therefore very happy and proud to actively participate in the development of Rives Ardentes. By its nature, this eco-district perfectly echoes the values of Ethias and its employees.

With the agreement of the City of Liège, the former offices occupied by Ethias for more than 50 years in the city centre will be rehabilitated and converted into housing.

Ethias’s strategic real estate decisions do not only concern the Liège site. At the same time, Ethias Hasselt site, inaugurated in 1984, is shortly set to undergo a complete renovation, aiming at reducing its energy footprint as well as improving the way the space is laid out. Ultimately, the office space occupied by Ethias staff will be less, leaving room for a third-party company to also occupy part of the premises.

Finally, from spring 2021, Ethias will leave its Brussels headquarters on the Rue d'Arlon / Trèves in favour of new office space fitted out in the Madou district, and more precisely in the brand new Spectrum building developed by Ghelamco but then coming into the hands of German fund Deka Immobilien.
