The Antwerp Meir may soon see the arrival of a luxury department store of the Harrods, Galeries Lafayette or De Bijenkorf type. On the former Proximus site, within a block bordered by the Meir, Jezusstraat, Cellebroedersstraat and Lange Nieuwstraat, the Machiels and Tans families are planning the large Meir Corner complex. But the ambitious project is meeting with resistance.

On the top floors of the Meir Corner project, designed by Binst Architects and B-Architecten, a 28,000 m² campus is to be built for the Karel de Grote Hogeschool, which will accommodate 7,000 students and 650 members of staff in 2024. Meir Corner also provides 11,000 m² of retail space on the ground floor. It is in this space that the developers are planning to locate the large luxury department store.

Meir Corner For this mixed use redevelopment, certain historic elements of the site will be retained and integrated into the project, including the former RTT building.
