Real estate advisor JLL has announced that Walter Goossens has decided to leave the company and his role as Head of Industrial & Logistics Leasing Belgium, as he intends to give a new direction to his career. JLL goes on to say that it highly appreciates and values Walter’s ‘contribution in building up its Belux industrial platform and business to become the undisputed market leader during the past 20 years’. Walter Goossens also contributed to starting JLL’s Luxembourg Agency services in 1991 and to developing JLL Retail business as Head of Retail Leasing Belux between 2008 and 2016. He will stay with JLL until 30 April.

Walter Goossens commented: “Leaving JLL after almost 34 years feels very weird as I am excited to start a new life and to look for new challenges but at the same a little sad to leave behind my team with whom I have lived so many business successes and true friendships. Anyway, it is time for a change and to give room to young talented people”.

With this departure, Mathieu Opsomer will take over the role of Head of Industrial & Logistics Leasing Belgium with effect from May 1st. Mathieu, the firm says, brings to JLL Industrial & Logistics Leasing a strong market expertise of five years with King Sturge and nearly ten years with JLL, a deal-making capacity and a client-centric approach. This is instrumental to further drive the success of their industrial and logistics platform.

JLL has always considered industrial to be a strategic sector and has been expanding its activities through Leasing, Capital Markets, Valuation, Advisory and Research. The firm’s ambition for the future is stated to be continuing on growth path and maintaining a market leader position in the Belgian market.

This is the third time this year that JLL has been involved in a personnel loss. At the beginning of January, the tragic death of Pierre Bondele was announced, co-founder of the firm in Belgium and a senior director. A little later, CEO Jean-Philip Vroninks announced his own departure to join Befimmo. The departure of Walter Goossens adds another gap.
