There has been another Belgian success in the prestigious Mipim Awards. Although the building in question – Sluishuis – is not located in Belgium but in the Netherlands (Amsterdam), the developer is a Belgian company – Besix RED in collaboration with its Netherlands arm and with Vorm Bouw.

Sluishuis took the top prize in the Best Residential Development category during the awards ceremony held in Cannes yesterday evening. The project is the work of architects Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) & Barcode Architects.

Sluishuis extends to over 39,000 m² and comprises 442 residential units. Being located on the IJ-lake in Amsterdam, it also includes 34 lots for houseboats and 54 berths for pleasure boats. Car parking is located below the water level on two floors. A small amount of retail space and 1,000 m² of catering facilities are also part of the project. Sluishuis has also been conceived to be zero energy.
