Green light for the European Commission's new conference centre
OFFICES According to L'Echo, developer Atenor has received planning permission for the construction of the European Commission's new conference centre on rue de la Loi in the Brussels European Quarter. The permit process has ended. Initially, the project, called REALEX, was supposed to be a 128 m office tower. However, it ended scaled down to 55 m, which is the same height as the EU Congress building.
Assar architects designed the conference centre, which will cover almost 26,000 m² over eight levels. There will also be a 14-storey office building, covering 19,000 m².
The Borschette centre on rue Froissart will be replaced by this new conference centre with a capacity of around 3,000 people. In early 2021, Atenor signed an agreement with the European Commission, via the OIB, to acquire the new conference centre.
